Overview
The Grants Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial management of grant-funded projects by ensuring accurate financial compliance, reporting, and effective partnership management, particularly in emergency response and humanitarian contexts.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed financial records for all grant activities.
- Assist in the preparation of accurate grant budgets and track expenditures.
- Oversee the disbursement and reconciliation of grant funds.
- Monitor expenditure trends and alert management of budget variances.
- Prepare and submit accurate, timely financial reports to donors.
- Conduct regular financial reconciliations.
- Collaborate with the Grants Finance Manager to address donor inquiries.
- Ensure adherence to donor financial policies and internal accounting procedures.
- Support local partners in financial management by providing training and technical assistance.
- Assess partners’ financial capabilities and recommend process improvements.
- Ensure that partners’ financial reporting aligns with donor and organizational standards.
- Conduct financial reviews and compliance assessments for partners.
- Assist in preparing for internal and external audits.
- Organize and maintain financial records to facilitate smooth audit processes.
- Address audit findings by implementing corrective actions.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in finance, with a strong focus on grant-funded project financial management.
- Familiarity with donor regulations (BHA, ECHO, UN agencies, etc.) is required.
- Proficiency in financial software, budget tracking, and compliance monitoring.
- Strong ability to conduct reconciliations and financial variance analysis.
- Willingness to be deployed on short notice to emergency settings with limited resources.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
