Overview
A Fire Prevention Specialist works to prevent fires and minimize damage. They inspect buildings, install safety devices, and teach people how to respond during a fire to protect lives and property.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and testing of fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and fire extinguishers.
- Install and calibrate fire detection and suppression equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on fire systems and prepare detailed reports on the status of fire protection systems.
- Respond to fire alarms and assist in fire suppression efforts, as required.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal fire codes and regulations.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Develop and implement safety plans tailored to the specific needs of the workplace.
- Provide safety training to employees on safety procedures and protocols.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to ascertain causes and make recommendations for future prevention.
- Collaborate with management to develop safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment.
Required Experience
• Preferably 2 years of relevant working experience in fire prevention and protection, or in a related field.
Qualifications
- Upper secondary education in a related field.
- Certification as a Fire Inspector 1 or the ability to obtain within first 2 years of employment.
- Fire Prevention 1 and 2 or the ability to obtain within first 2 years of employment.
- CP 1, Health and Safety Certification or the ability to obtain within first 2 years of employment.
