Overview

The Media Monitor is responsible for tracking, analysing and reporting on international media coverage relevant to NATO’s mandate, leadership and strategic priorities, supporting the Office of Strategic Communications (OSC) leadership by providing timely situational awareness and regular media products.


Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor international, national and regional media and relevant social media for coverage related to NATO and its strategic priorities.
  • Alert and keep the OSC’s leadership and other stakeholders informed on developments, trends and narratives with potential impact on NATO’s communication posture.
  • Provide timely and relevant media monitoring insights, including to support crisis communications.
  • Prepare and distribute regular and ad-hoc media monitoring products across the Organization.
  • Develop/maintain solid understanding of a complex international media environment.
  • Stay abreast of current trends and tools in media monitoring and analysis.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the OSC’s work and the broader Information Environment Assessment.
  • Build working relationships with teams across the OSC and the NATO enterprise on issues impacting media monitoring and operations.
  • Continuously integrate the political guidance of OSC’s leadership to ensure accurate contextual guidance and insights.
  • Collaborate, and coordinate work within the Media Operations and Monitoring Team to manage various work strands simultaneously.
  • Assist with various OSC projects as required by the OSC leadership.
  • Support the planning and implementation of media operations as required.
  • Perform any other related duty as assigned.
Required Experience
  • Two years of relevant professional experience in international politics or communications with a university degree/upper vocational training OR four years of relevant experience with higher secondary education qualification.
  • Experience in media monitoring and/or media analysis working in a press office (advantage).
  • Experience in media operations and/or events management (advantage).
Qualifications

• Higher secondary education qualification OR a university degree/upper vocational training in a relevant discipline.

Other Details
Languages Required
• Minimum levels of NATO’s official languages (English/French): V (“Advanced”) in one; I (“Beginner”) in the other.
Languages Preferred
• Knowledge of other Allied and/or partner languages.
Contract Duration
Definite duration contract of three years’ duration; possibility of an indefinite duration contract thereafter.
