Overview

Facilitates extended learning and enrichment programs for middle and high school youth from refugee and immigrant backgrounds, supporting academic success and future opportunities. Serves as a liaison for Afghan or Ukrainian families, translating program information and providing feedback on cultural sensitivity.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead program implementation and support design of middle/high school programs.
  • Support curriculum development, lesson planning, and designing lesson activities.
  • Plan and lead large and small group activities and lessons.
  • Create safe and healing learning spaces and build supportive relationships.
  • Utilize academic resources and curriculum for culturally and level-appropriate implementation.
  • Facilitate attendance records, classroom management, and material distribution.
  • Support volunteers and interns assisting with youth programming.
  • Lead outreach, registration, and data management for assigned programs.
  • Utilize interpretation resources to outreach to families and complete program forms.
  • Maintain accurate and updated information on tracking files.
  • Provide communication to families on program updates and design accessible materials.
  • Serve as staff liaison for Afghan or Ukrainian families.
  • Lead communications with Afghan or Ukrainian families and translate program materials.
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of academic standards and post-secondary pathways.
  • Research and build knowledge of available services and programs.
  • Identify and engage potential partner organizations.
  • Attend in-person events in the community and co-facilitate arrangements.
  • Support with translation and interpretation for materials and families.
  • Provide systems navigation and education related assistance to newcomer Afghan or Ukrainian families.
  • Participate in program meetings and staff development activities.
  • Drive an IRC van to transport participants to events, as needed.
Required Experience
  • 2+ years of experience teaching, tutoring or mentoring secondary youth.
  • Experience navigating post-secondary opportunities.
  • Experience teaching/tutoring literacy and/or mathematics a plus.
  • Experience in group youth enrichment programs desired (such as day camps, youth groups, outdoor education programs, after school programs, field trips, sports/recreation programs or clubs).
  • Experience working with multi-lingual students or English Language Learners.
  • Experience and proficiency utilizing online platforms such as Zoom and Teams, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Qualifications
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in fields such as youth development, college/career advising, teaching, tutoring, or mentoring desirable.
  • TESOL certificate a plus.
  • Willing to be First Aid/CPR certified upon hire.
  • Driver’s license and insurance.

Languages Required
• Fluency in either Dari, Pashto, or Ukrainian is required for this position. • Written and spoken proficiency in English.
Languages Preferred
• Professional proficiency in Dari and Pashto.

Remuneration
• Pay Range: $28.00 - $29.50
