Overview
The Executive Secretary, D2 role is responsible for providing thematic advice, conducting negotiations, and organizing meetings related to the Montreal Protocol and Vienna Convention. The role also involves managing the Ozone Secretariat's work programme and resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing thematic advice to parties, technical bodies, and partner organizations.
- Conducting high-level negotiations to expedite treaty implementation.
- Organizing meetings, subsidiary bodies, and workshops.
- Delivering statements and providing information in international environmental meetings.
- Creating and maintaining diplomatic links and partnerships.
- Maintaining reporting systems for controlled substances and analyzing data.
- Developing and managing the Secretariat's work programme.
- Agreeing on meeting agendas in consultation with Bureaux and co-chairs.
- Participating in assessment processes and providing organizational support.
- Developing management strategy and leading Secretariat staff and resources.
- Leading data collection and analysis for planning and decision-making.
Required Experience
- A minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible professional working experience, some of which is at national level with links to the international processes on environment.
- At least five (5) years professional experience at the international level.
- Experience in facilitation and moderation of intergovernmental processes.
- Knowledge of the Montreal Protocol and experience in its implementation.
- Experience in the UN system or other international organizations is desirable.
- Experience in handling a multidisciplinary portfolio of tasks and duties and the ability to lead a team of specialists in interdisciplinary effort is desirable.
- Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, natural sciences, environmental management, economics, business/public administration or related disciplines is required.
- A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
- Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
