Overview

The Communications Officer (External Communications) is responsible for producing quality communications products that illustrate WHO's work and impact in countries, developing and adapting communications products for country-level use, and building communications capacity in Country Offices.


Key Responsibilities
  • Researches and develops news stories, features, and event notices of WHO work at country level for external audiences.
  • Develops and posts country-focused social media content.
  • Supports the organization and management of National Focal Point for Communications Network meetings.
  • Assists in handling requests for communications support and guidance from Country Offices.
  • Works with Country Offices on strengthening their social media presence.
  • Supports Country Offices in developing and implementing their communications strategies and action plans.
  • Builds and maintains a portfolio of strategic communications templates and tools for Country Offices.
  • Supports the coordination of the Country Office Communications Network and capacity building for staff.
  • Supports the development of training materials and provides training for Country Office staff.
Required Experience

At least 2 years of professional experience in communications and/or international relations, with at least 1 year in an international environment. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing communications strategies for public sector organizations; coordinating the development, writing and delivery of multilingual communications products/materials, such as news stories, brochures and social media content; organizing virtual meetings and coordinating professional networks; developing and disseminating campaign and advocacy materials; developing and delivering communications training; and analysing communications activities and campaigns and drafting outcome reports. Relevant experience within WHO, the United Nations or other international organizations with focus on development/public health.

Qualifications

University degree (Bachelor's level) in communications, journalism or related social science. University degree (Master's level) in any of the above fields. Public health or international relations qualifications.

Remuneration
Annual base salary starting at USD 56,046 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2046 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
