Overview

The European Commission is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the Medical Service in Ispra, Italy. The role involves performing wet chemistry steps for radiotoxicological analyses and potentially operating radioanalytical equipment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Perform wet chemistry steps (mineralization, extraction chromatography etc.) for the separation of selected radionuclides.
  • Become competent to use radioanalytical, nuclear measurement equipment (e.g. LSC, Gamma and Alpha spectrometers, etc.) and/or ICP-MS.
  • Become a member of an emergency decontamination team.
Required Experience
  • Solid experience in chemical laboratory.
  • Technical knowledge and practical experience in radiochemistry (including e.g. manipulation of not-sealed radioactive sources etc.) is a very strong asset.
  • Knowledge of nuclear measurement equipment (including e.g. nuclear instrumentation calibration etc.) is an asset.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Excel basic features.
  • Knowledge of advanced Microsoft Excel features (macros, statistical analysis, etc.) is an asset.
Qualifications
  • A level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma, or
  • A level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least three years.

Languages Required
• A thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the EU. • AND a satisfactory knowledge (minimum level B2) of a second official language of the EU, to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of Italian will be considered as an asset.

Remuneration
The pay of staff members consists of a basic salary supplemented with specific allowances, including, where applicable, expatriation and family allowances.
