Overview
Ensure good pharmacy distribution practices including storage, supply, distribution, and rational use of drugs to ensure effectiveness and operational availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Support drug dispensers in primary health facilities by ensuring safe, efficient, and accurate dispensing processes.
- Ensure adherence to standardized dispensing practices, promoting rational drug use.
- Ensure medicines are stored in an organized manner, adhering to standard guidelines for arrangement and labeling.
- Maintain a clean, pest-free environment in all health facility pharmacies, implementing necessary pest control measures.
- Ensure regular physical inventory checks are done at all the facilities every month.
- Ensure the removal of expired items and proper documentation of these actions.
- Monitor stock cards in health facilities, ensuring they are regularly updated to reflect accurate stock levels.
- Report on items nearing expiration to facilitate prompt action and prevent wastage.
- Responsible for safe disposal of expired drugs and medical supplies, working with the regulatory authority where applicable.
- Responsible for handling the ordering of medical products and supplies from SCI-supported facilities.
- Responsible for field-based consumption reporting and timely completion, identifying trends and gaps in medication usage.
- Ensure accurate reporting of drug stock movement and consumption.
- Oversee medication use in the field.
- Maintain the temperature of refrigerators in PHCs and SCs between 2-8°C.
- Ensure strict adherence to the contingency plan in case of cold chain breakdown.
- Ensure the proper packaging procedure for transport in passive cold chain systems.
- Provide on-the-job training to drug dispensers/pharmacy technicians, ensuring safe and accurate dispensing processes and patient counseling on prescribed treatment.
- Ensure that high-quality standards of health commodity management are met, including Good Distribution Practices, covering rotation, control, pipeline management, consumption monitoring, and ordering.
- Monitor medication safety across primary health care teams and stabilization centers.
- Responsible for pharmacovigilance in the field.
- Register the pharmacy warehouse with PCN using his/her license.
- Carry out quarterly pharmacy standard scorecard assessment
Required Experience
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience post NYSC
- Work experience in humanitarian settings and international NGO
Qualifications
- BSc in Pharmacy
- Valid license to practice
