Overview

The Regional Security Officer provides technical advice, oversight, and support on security and safety matters to ensure personnel, information, and infrastructure are protected in accordance with NATO security standards. The incumbent deputizes for the Senior Regional Security Officer and is expected to operate in semi/non-permissive environments.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility and advise on security and safety of premises, staff, and Communication & Information Systems (CIS), including cyber security support and management.
  • Coordinate security management support and oversight.
  • Lead or co-lead the initial management of security incidents and undertake subsequent investigations.
  • Contribute to the definition and implementation of security projects.
  • Act as safety and fire incident manager.
  • Undertake research and analysis of threats, risks, security conditions, and vulnerabilities.
  • Keep abreast of new and emerging security technologies.
  • Initiate, formulate, or amend policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to the NATO Security Policy and supporting directives.
  • Enable appropriate security measures and responses with regard to safety and security of staff.
  • Provide education and training for security and safety.
  • Develop, maintain, and regularly implement the security and safety plan (SSP).
  • Contribute to, oversee, and manage security tenders and delivery by providers.
  • Plan and manage execution of contracts for existing physical security systems and staff provided by third parties.
  • Make appropriate proposals for the preventive and corrective maintenance and possible enhancement of these systems.
  • Contribute to designing and conducting simulation exercises.
  • Undertake any other related tasks as required.
Required Experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience working on security related to the protection of personnel, premises, security systems and CIS abroad.
  • Relevant experience in incident/crisis planning.
  • Experience in security and/or cybersecurity in a NATO Member State’s Government or military, in an international public organization or field work experience (advantage).
  • Knowledge in counter-intelligence / insider threat, open-source intelligence and the link between security and business continuity (advantage).
Qualifications

• A university degree or an equivalent level of qualification, in a relevant field.

Languages Required
• Minimum levels of NATO’s official languages (English/French): V (“Advanced”) in one, I (“Beginner”) in the other.
Languages Preferred
• Knowledge of Ukrainian and/or Russian.
Contract Duration
Definite duration contract of one year; possibility of 2 renewals for up to one year (1 + 1 + 1 year).
