Overview
The Maternity Nurse is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of Maternal and Neonatal Care in the maternity unit within IRC supported Health facilities, aiming to promote quality of care for Gynae and or Emergency obstetric and Neonatal Care patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide quality maternal and perinatal care including assessment, identification of complications, and discharge preparation.
- Conduct antenatal care, including check-ups, monitoring vital signs, diagnostic tests, and health education.
- Manage labor and delivery, including monitoring progress, providing support, administering medications, conducting normal deliveries, and neonatal resuscitation.
- Provide postnatal care, monitoring for complications, assisting with ambulation, and educating mothers.
- Respond to obstetric and neonatal emergencies by identifying complications and instituting timely interventions.
- Process patient referral documents and accompany patients during referrals.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation, clinical records, patient charts, and reports in EMR.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement, safety measures, and audits.
- Maintain departmental equipment and submit regular inventory reports.
- Comply with IRC-Kenya program specific policies and procedures.
Required Experience
More than 2 years of clinical maternity ward experience in a busy facility.
Qualifications
- Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN)/Kenya Registered Midwife. (KRM) from a recognized Nursing Training Institution
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya with valid practicing licence.
