Overview

The role involves providing assistance to the Rule of Law Section by monitoring court cases, conducting research, and drafting reports to support judicial and legal reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina.


Key Responsibilities
  • Monitoring court cases before the courts of BiH, as well as the human rights situation within other justice sector institutions;
  • Researching and analysing decisions by prosecutor’s offices and courts of BiH;
  • Tracking information in relation to electoral fraud cases, as well as hate crimes, and assist in other data collection related activities;
  • Conducting desk research in the area of criminal and transitional justice and international human rights law;
  • Drafting reports, memoranda, background papers, and talking points;
  • Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings;
  • Assisting in the organization of events related to the work of the RoLS;
  • Translating documents from/to BCS/ENG;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Under the age of 30 on the date of the deadline of this vacancy notice;
  • In your final year of higher education at graduate or postgraduate level or within two years after graduation by the deadline of the vacancy;
  • Knowledge of international legal standards, procedure and instruments, in particular in relation to international humanitarian and international criminal, and/or international human rights law;
  • Knowledge of criminal law and procedure;
  • Strong analytical, research, and drafting skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
  • Computer literate with practical experience using Microsoft applications.

Languages Required
• Professional fluency in English and in local languages with excellent communication (both oral and written) skills
Languages Preferred
• Knowledge of relevant BiH legal frameworks, history, and politics; • Previous experience in working/interning for an international organization or in an international environment; • Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Remuneration
• Selected interns who are non-residents of the duty station may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs, equivalent to 10% of the applicable BLA rate. • The OSCE will cover life and disability insurance for the duration of internship.
