Overview
The Regional Medical Officer operates within IOM’s Occupational Health Unit, supporting regional and country offices by ensuring staff health and well-being through occupational medical services, case management, and health planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and validate medical examination reports.
- Assess medical fitness for duty and deployment.
- Undertake clinical duties, including consultations and emergency response.
- Provide occupational health services such as immunizations and travel health.
- Oversee the review of medical insurance claims.
- Implement the Occupational Health Strategy regionally.
- Advise HR and senior management on medical standards.
- Implement health education programs.
- Submit regular reports on medical cases and trends.
- Represent IOM in inter-agency health forums.
Required Experience
- Seven years of post doctorate experience in clinical medicine.
- Experience in occupational health, travel and tropical medicine, preventive medicine, medical evacuations, mental health, and crisis management are an asset.
- At least three years of managerial/supervision experience with clinical staff.
- Experience in general office administration.
- Experience in medical insurances and health claim analysis is desirable.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to occupational health care practice is an asset.
- Experience in liaising with international organizations and hospitals in different countries is an asset.
Qualifications
- Completed doctorate in Medicine from an accredited academic institution (Doctor in Medicine).
- Post-doctoral Diploma in one of the specialty branches of Medicine (e.g. Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Occupational Medicine).
