Overview

Develop an advocacy manual to empower persons with disabilities and Organisations for Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in Zambia to realize their rights through strategic interventions and meaningful participation.


Key Responsibilities
  • Review and update the existing advocacy manual.
  • Ensure the manual is strategic, accessible, and user-friendly for persons with disabilities and their organizations.
  • Incorporate expertise in advocacy and disability inclusion.
Required Experience
  • At least 8 years of experience in disability inclusion, disability rights, human rights, social inclusion, public policy or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with OPDs, government institutions, civil society or development partners.
  • Experience in Zambia or similar contexts is required.
  • Regional or international experience is an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of disability rights, national disability legislation, the CRPD and relevant human rights frameworks.
  • Ability to simplify legal, policy and technical content into practical, user-friendly guidance.
  • Experience developing advocacy strategies, campaigns, manuals, toolkits, checklists or training materials.
  • Proven skills in lobbying, negotiation, coalition building, stakeholder engagement and influencing decision makers.
  • Knowledge of accessible and inclusive communication, disability etiquette and respectful portrayal of persons with disabilities.
  • Experience applying participatory and rights-based approaches, including “Nothing About Us Without Us”.
  • Ability to address intersectionality, including gender, age, poverty, stigma, GBV, climate risks and other protection concerns.
  • Experience using evidence, lived experience, good practices and lessons learned to inform practical guidance.
  • Excellent English writing, communication and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of Zambia’s disability sector, OPD landscape and institutional context is an added advantage.
Qualifications

• Master's degree in communications, Public Relations, Psychology, Education, and Sociology.
