Overview
The Accountant will analyze accounts, review financial reports, and ensure accounting systems are functioning. The role involves providing advice on financial regulations and coordinating the processing of various financial transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyses accounts and reviews/evaluates regular financial reports.
- Identifies problem transactions and irregularities, resolving them.
- Approves/Confirms proposed obligations or expenditure.
- Ensures accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems.
- Assists, prepares or consolidates financial statements.
- Responds to internal/external audit observations.
- Reviews financial statements of other entities.
- Provides advice and guidance concerning UN Financial Regulations and Rules.
- Provides authoritative interpretation of requirements for handling transactions.
- Coordinates and supervises the processing of IOV’s, payroll, government and vendor claims, travel, and billing.
- Monitors, analyses, and approves transactions for entry into the accounting system.
- Keeps abreast and provides guidance on UMOJA procedures.
- Defines requirements and works with systems units for financial reports.
- Participates in the development of accounting policies.
- Provides information needed to respond to audit findings.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Experience
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, or budget is required.
- At least five years of professional experience focused on transactional activities of US income tax process is required.
- Experience working with the United Nations or a large global Organization's system and procedures is required.
- Experience in finance systems analysis and development is desirable.
- Experience with SAP, People Soft or similar ERP systems, specifically in the area of payroll and finance is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in taxation, accounting, information technology, business administration, finance, or related field is required. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
