Overview
The Head of New Business Development (HNBD) will lead the New Business Development Process for the Syria Country office, focusing on strategic relationship building, funding acquisition, and proposal development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support assessment of the country, regional and global landscape and develop a plan for building strategic relationships and increasing funding.
- Lead on gathering intelligence from strategic relationships to prepare for competitive proposal processes.
- Establish an effective proposal development process ensuring compliance and capturing learning.
- Utilize NBD best practices and feed program intelligence and lessons back into the Prepare phase.
- Lead the development of high-quality concept notes and proposals for major institutional donors, corporate foundations, and philanthropic donors.
- Develop donor engagement plans in line with country strategic plan ambitions.
- Facilitate structured donor engagement, intelligence gathering, donor scoping, and identification of donor opportunities.
- Coordinate and write proposals for large, competitive funding opportunities.
- Package program strategies to attract donor support and grow the portfolio strategically and sustainably.
Required Experience
- Experience of supporting resource mobilisation and new business development in humanitarian and development programme settings, in particular writing of new grant submissions (proposal and/or concept notes).
- At least 5-7 years of demonstrated experience leading on new business development and fundraising in NGOs.
- Experience in coordinating development of large-scale or strategic proposals, including the development of multi-million-dollar project budgets.
- Experience with US and UK government programming, SIDA, DANIDA, ECHO, BMZ amongst others including compliance requirements.
- Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner including proficiency in MS office tools.
- Previous experience of project management and project cycle management, including project design, implementation and evaluation.
- Good understanding of donor compliance and reporting mechanisms and requirements.
- Good understanding of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
- Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability.
- Experience or understanding of the Syrian Context (Desirable).
- Experience working for Save the Children and working across organisational structures (Desirable).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject (Humanitarian, Human rights, Development) with relevant field experience.
