Overview

Policy Assistant role in DG TAXUD of the European Commission, providing operational and technical support for the design and implementation of industrial aspects of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).


Key Responsibilities
  • Analysis of technical issues
  • Drafting of notes, briefings, summaries and policy papers
  • Contribution to the drafting of technical aspects of legislation
  • Contribution to guidance and Q&A documents
  • Replies to stakeholder requests
  • Organisation of meetings
Required Experience

Knowledge in science or engineering in relation to industrial processes. Good knowledge of and experience in EU environmental, climate and energy policies is an asset. Good knowledge of and experience in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) or of the CBAM is a strong asset. Good knowledge of and experience in industrial processes in one of the CBAM sectors is a strong asset. Good knowledge of and experience in technical implementation issues related to the EU ETS or the CBAM is a very strong asset. Experience and a good knowledge of informatics tools would be considered an advantage.

Qualifications

Have a level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma OR a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least three years.

Excellent written and oral communication in English is required. Have a thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the EU AND have a satisfactory knowledge (minimum level B2) of a second official language of the EU, to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.

Contract Duration
The duration of the first contract will be 1 year. Subject to the interest of the service, the contract may be renewed one or more times up to a maximum duration of 6 years.

Remuneration
The grade or proposed grade range, as well as the step in that grade, will be defined on the basis of the candidates’ previous professional experience. The pay of staff members consists of a basic salary supplemented with specific allowances, including, where applicable, expatriation and family allowances. The provisions guiding the calculation of these allowances can be consulted in the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants. As a member of staff of the European institutions, your pay is subject to a tax raised by those institutions.
