Overview

Seeking a qualified professional to provide expert technical inputs and operational support on disaster risk analytics to Task Teams and World Bank clients. The role involves contributing to and leading knowledge products related to risk analytics and climate and disaster risk management.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of flood risk analytics that input into post-disaster damage tools and applications.
  • Engage with regional TTLs and government counterparts on risk analytics methodologies and results.
  • Develop risk analytics capabilities through the development and improvement of flood risk modelling products, innovations, coding, and tools.
  • Support the implementation and procurement of flood and climate related risk reduction, preparedness and climate adaptation technical activities.
  • Discuss and define technical requirements for activities in Flood Risk Management Technical Assistance.
  • Cultivate and advance partnerships with firms, consultants, external institutions, and internal World Bank teams.
  • Illustrate Program advancements and contributions in the form of blogs, peer-reviewed papers, conference contributions, etc.
  • Contribute to programmatic outputs including results monitoring, reporting, budgeting, and branding.
  • Contribute to the work of KIUSD teams, facilitating team building, learning and knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Carry out other tasks relevant to support the overall objective of the position.
Required Experience

A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is required. Practical experience in disaster risk analysis, hydraulic and hydrological modeling modelling and other hazards is required. Experience in producing technical deliverables including reports and presentations, project coordination, Technical Assistance (TA) is preferred. Working knowledge of World Bank operations, especially in disaster risk management, disaster risk financing and climate change adaptation projects. Prior working experience in TA in seismic, tropical cyclone and floods risk management within a World Bank project context is a plus. Strong experience working in disaster risk analytics and post-disaster assessments. Practical experience in flood related infrastructure projects is desired. Demonstrated strong skills in engaging with clients on reform processes in at least one major business area; ability to engage on multiple business areas preferred. Experience collaborating with government agencies, international organizations, and community leaders.

Qualifications

Master’s degree (or PhD) in Risk Modelling, Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Hydrology, Risk Analysis, Disaster Risk Management, Geotechnical, and/or relevant fields.
