Overview
CANADEM maintains an operational roster of experienced professionals who can be rapidly deployed to support United Nations agencies during sudden-onset emergencies, disasters and protracted humanitarian crises. Through the Standby Partnership Programme, roster experts provide short-term surge capacity and specialised support to humanitarian operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy rapidly, potentially within 48 to 72 hours, in response to urgent requests from United Nations and international partners.
- Provide specialised technical expertise to humanitarian operations and Humanitarian Cluster Leads.
- Fill short-term staffing gaps in emergency and field operations.
- Support the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance to displaced and crisis-affected populations.
- Apply relevant sectoral, managerial, technical or operational expertise in challenging field environments.
- Adapt quickly, work across cultures and contribute effectively from the beginning of an assignment.
- CANADEM’s roster covers a broad range of profiles, including humanitarian coordination, refugee and IDP protection, information technology, ICT systems, assessment and evaluation, programme management, logistics, finance, procurement, public health, nutrition, shelter, WASH, education, gender, child protection, security, human rights, governance, elections, communications and knowledge transfer.
Required Experience
- At least five years of professional experience in the applicant’s field of expertise.
- Experience working or volunteering with NGOs, government institutions, multinational organizations or United Nations agencies.
- Relevant humanitarian, development, international, field mission or emergency-response experience according to the selected roster profile.
- Ability to think quickly, adapt to changing circumstances and live and work in difficult environments.
- Demonstrated cultural and gender sensitivity and strong interpersonal skills.
- Prior UN or international field experience is particularly relevant for Standby Partnership deployments.
Qualifications
No specific academic degree is prescribed in the source. Applicants must possess established professional expertise in one or more CANADEM roster areas and demonstrate the operational readiness, adaptability and interpersonal competencies required for international field assignments.
