ASSOCIATE DATA SPECIALIST, NOB
Overview
The Associate Data Specialist will contribute to the development and implementation of databases, data collection systems, and data analytics to optimize statistical efficiency and quality within the UN Resident Coordination Office.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics, and other analysis, reporting and quality control capabilities.
- Identify appropriate data sources for analytics projects.
- Identify new data analysis process-improvement opportunities and strategies.
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns using statistical methods.
- Implement process-improvement mechanisms for data analytics tasks.
- Acquire and clean data from primary and secondary sources.
- Maintain and quality-assure databases and data systems.
- Develop reports, dashboards, and other tools to summarize findings.
- Document requirements, background information, and methodology.
- Establish documentation practices and standards.
- Draft inputs for a wide range of documents/reports, briefings/debriefings, and correspondence.
- Contribute to the development of processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.
- Design internal process improvements, including automating manual processes and optimizing data delivery.
- Collaborate with data engineers and data scientists to improve data flows and data quality.
- Contribute to the creation of basic data visualization outputs.
- Assist with data collection and initial analysis.
- Report unresolved issues to senior staff.
- Contribute to the production of data products like reports or newsletters.
- Conduct data collection, cleaning, and preliminary analysis.
- Compile and clarify data insights and develop supporting materials for stakeholder communications.
- Propose application of current and emerging trends in data analytics best practices, technologies, and tools.
- Build staff and partner capacity on data analytics, including delivering trainings and workshops.
- Support data preparation and preliminary analysis, verification, and pattern identification.
- Contribute to routine reporting and administrative aspects of the work plan.
- Contribute to the design and development of data science products using advanced analytical methods.
- Serve as a resource person and informal mentor on data analytics within the RCO.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience demonstrating ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions is required. Demonstrated ability to perform quality assurance of data analysis outputs is required. Demonstrated ability to assess data accuracy and consistency by performing data validation is desirable. Demonstrated skills in data storytelling and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, and R is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Qualifications
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, information management, data management, information systems, information science or a related quantitative field is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
