Media Coordinator
Overview
Coordinate media coverage and communication activities for disaster risk reduction events and initiatives, including media outreach, press material development, and event support.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate media coverage for the World Tsunami Awareness Day event in Chile.
- Secure placement of op-eds in regional media.
- Develop a package to disseminate the World Tsunami Awareness Day campaign.
- Organize a virtual meeting of the Regional Media Network advisory council.
- Design and produce Regional Media Network newsletters.
- Collect and document good practices and impact stories.
- Develop and disseminate press releases and media advisories for RP27.
- Coordinate media outreach, accreditation, and registration for RP27.
- Prepare the RP27 media kit and website media section.
- Secure and coordinate interviews, press conferences, and media appearances.
- Identify and propose key media contacts as moderators.
- Support the delivery of a dedicated media session at RP27.
- Undertake media monitoring and ensure dissemination of RP27 coverage.
- Act as rapporteur for the RP27 media session.
- Perform other communication and media-related tasks.
Required Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of journalism and media relations is required. Experience in media relations development and events is required. Experience with regional media across multiple media channels (print, radio, broadcast, online) is required. An established network of media contacts across the Americas and the Caribbean, with a proven track record of securing coverage in regional and mainstream outlets, is required.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in journalism, communication, media relations, international relations, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with at least two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
