Emergency Response Team Protection Coordinator
Overview
The Emergency Response Team Protection Coordinator (Child Protection) will be responsible for initiating and leading integrated protection and/or child protection programming in acute emergency responses. This role involves rapid assessment, program start-up, strategy development, technical oversight, staff management, and budget management.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct stakeholder analysis and design/conduct multisector needs assessments.
- Provide strategic direction and technical management of protection response.
- Lead start-up, implementation, and coordination of emergency protection programming.
- Develop VPRIE strategy and input into overall emergency response strategy.
- Ensure client participation in program design and implementation.
- Develop/adapt technical tools and approaches.
- Support emergency protection staff in implementing and monitoring work plans.
- Oversee relationships with partners.
- Design and implement M&E systems.
- Provide comprehensive handover to successor.
- Manage emergency grant/program implementation.
- Develop high quality technical proposals and reports.
- Collaborate with IRC grants and finance staff.
- Recruit, onboard, and supervise emergency protection staff.
- Ensure staff understand IRC Code of Conduct and policies.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key actors.
- Attend emergency protection coordination meetings.
- Advocate for standards and procedures in protection programming.
- Refine emergency CP program models, toolkits, and technical guidance.
- Support emergency preparedness and readiness.
- Contribute to integrated and multi-sectoral program design.
- Provide technical support, coaching, and backstopping to CP-centered emergency responses.
- Represent acute emergency approaches within IRC’s global CP team.
Required Experience
At least five years’ experience working in the field of Protection, Child Protection, or WPE / GBV programming at the Coordinator level or above required, with proven track record managing multi-donor portfolios in acute emergency response, program and project start-up. Experience working with IRC and an understanding of IRC’s systems and processes is strongly preferred. Familiarity with key donor regulations such as UNHCR, FCDO, BPRM and ECHO. Experience in working with and coordinating with the UN, donors, INGOs and other humanitarian actors. Demonstrated experience in staff supervision, capacity building, project design and budget management. Proven leadership of multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural teams, with strong mentoring, coaching, motivational, and team-building skills. Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and fair treatment of staff, and ability to identify and address barriers to inclusion for marginalized groups in emergency response. Proven communication, writing and editing skills, including the ability to effectively write and edit grant proposals and reports. Flexible work attitude. Ability to work well, promote teamwork, be comfortable in a multi-cultural environment. Good digital literacy.
Qualifications
Post-graduate degree in social work, psychology, international humanitarian law, other related field, or equivalent work experience.
