Overview

The Coordination Officer, Political Affairs, P4 role involves developing and maintaining partnerships, supporting planning and programming processes, and facilitating information flow within the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO).


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain productive partnerships with various stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of Mission and UN common planning and programming processes.
  • Monitor and evaluate actions implemented through frameworks.
  • Provide substantive and practical support to relevant committees, task forces, clusters, inter-agency coordination groups, steering committees and working groups.
  • Represent UNSCO in relevant groups, working groups and coordination mechanisms in Gaza.
  • Organize and provide substantive and practical support to conferences, meetings, seminars and workshops.
  • Serve as a focal point between the Mission and UN programme staff in the field.
  • Identify issues and develop strategies for a common UN approach.
  • Support the development of strategies, policies and other measures designed to achieve common objectives.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for specific peace building activities.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of a resource mobilization strategy.
  • Prepare summary and analytical documents, including situation reports, background notes, options papers, code cables, talking points and input for reports of the Secretary-General and briefings to the Security Council.
  • Consolidate periodic reports of Mission and UN common planning and programming processes and budgets and identify constraints to implementation of UN wide strategies.
  • Serve as the focal point for coordinating and reporting on Mission or UN-system wide administrative inquiries and processes.
  • Maintain an effective system of information management.
  • Facilitate the flow of information between stakeholders.
Required Experience

A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in programme management, humanitarian affairs, political, civil affairs, including at least 2 years in complex, crisis or post conflict context or a related field is required. Experience managing and participating in inter-agency coordination mechanisms at the national level is required. At least 2 years of experience in post-conflict recovery planning coordination and/or programme implementation is desirable. At least two years of experience working in or in support of a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization, or similar multilateral or non-governmental organization is required. At least two years of experience working in the Middle East region and an understanding of the region’s political dynamics is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in business, Political Science, International development, law, public administration, logistics, human resources management, finance, accounting or a related area. A first level university degree with a combination of two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
