Overview
Support the coordination of Global Environment Facility (GEF) Biodiversity Enabling Activities and facilitate the coordination of UNEP projects funded by the Kunming Biodiversity Fund.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the coordination of Global Environment Facility (GEF) Biodiversity Enabling Activities (e.g. NBSAP updates, National Reports to UNCBD and its protocols, UNCCD reporting processes).
- Facilitate the coordination of UNEP projects funded by the Kunming Biodiversity Fund.
- Provide technical and analytical support for the implementation of relevant United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) resolutions.
- Monitor and analyze programme/project development and implementation; identify operational issues; propose solutions; and support follow-up actions related to Multilateral Environmental Agreements.
- Manage and supervise staff and personnel involved in these activities.
- Support engagement with Member States and partners through preparation and facilitation of technical workshops and consultations on Multilateral Environmental Agreements.
- Contribute to inter-agency coordination processes and working groups.
- Participate in field missions and provide technical and logistical support.
- Support budget and project management processes.
- Prepare briefings, speeches, and technical inputs for senior management.
- Support knowledge management and information sharing.
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management in biodiversity conservation, including international contexts, is required. Experience managing or coordinating diverse teams to deliver results in biodiversity is required. Experience working with Regional or Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) is desirable. Experience collaborating across multiple international organisations and/or UN agencies, is desirable. Demonstrable knowledge of GEF processes is desirable. Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in biodiversity conservation environmental science, sustainable development or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
