Overview
The Chief of Service, Economic Affairs is responsible for formulating and implementing the substantive work programme of the Branch, overseeing its activities, and coordinating work within and outside the Division.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads, supervises and carries out the work programme of the Branch.
- Provides programmatic/substantive reviews of drafts.
- Leads the publication of the World Economic Situation and Prospects and its updates.
- Provides thought-leadership to economic and analytical activities.
- Prepares responses to requests for input on economic issues.
- Ensures high-quality standards for outputs and publications.
- Assists the Director in preparing the work programme and allocating resources.
- Undertakes programmatic/administrative tasks for the Branch's functioning.
- Recruits staff within the Branch and contributes to other recruitment.
- Manages, guides, develops and trains staff.
- Fosters teamwork and communication.
- Leads and supervises the organization of expert group meetings.
- Participates in international, regional or national meetings.
- Represents the Branch in internal and external meetings.
- Advises and assists the Director with substantive and management questions.
Required Experience
A minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible experience undertaking global economic analyses, preferably in a policy-oriented environment is required. Extensive knowledge and application of macroeconomics, international economics, and econometrics is required. Experience in providing intellectual and managerial leadership to a team of economists and demonstrated supervisory skills is required. Experience working in international or regional intergovernmental or multilateral organizations is desirable. Experience in leading and overseeing preparation of publications and similar analytical products is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in macroeconomics, quantitative economics, econometrics or related area. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
