Overview
Two Laboratory Technician positions are available in Technical and Scientific Research to support the JRC's nuclear fuel safety sector. The roles are crucial for maintaining leadership in nuclear fuel safety studies and ensuring the optimal operation of research infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, set up and carry out welding trials on steel and specialised alloys used in nuclear applications.
- Encapsulation and welding of nuclear material in a confined environment.
- Develop and qualify welding procedures.
- Maintain Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) documentation.
- Plan and follow up maintenance and repair of welding equipment.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, scientific publications and documentation.
- Install, assemble and commission research equipment and machinery.
- Assume responsibility for laboratory and nuclear material accountancy.
- Perform non-destructive testing and metallographic examination of welds.
- Install, operate and maintain instrumentation for mechanical characterisation of metals and ceramics.
- Provide administrative assistance for calls for proposals and tenders, contract management and support in the development of operating regulations.
Required Experience
Two years of professional experience in industrial mechanical processes and/or welding are considered an advantage. Expertise in nuclear-related applications and experience working with radioactive materials would be an asset.
Qualifications
Secondary education or vocational training in mechanical processes and/or welding, or an equivalent qualification, is required. A level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma, or a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least three years, or where justified, professional training or professional experience of an equivalent level.
