Overview

Research, analyze, and present information related to sanctions measures and their implementation under United Nations Security Council resolutions.


Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor sanctions measures and research alleged violations
  • Contribute to reporting on violations and non-compliance
  • Prepare recommendations for improved sanctions implementation
  • Compile information for potential designation of individuals and entities
  • Cooperate with regional/international organizations and the UN system
  • Monitor media for issues relevant to the mandate
  • Prepare and deliver briefings on sanctions regimes
  • Assist States in strengthening sanctions implementation capacities
  • Contribute to reports with high standards of evidence and methodology
  • Provide due process to respond to allegations
  • Undertake other duties as mandated
  • Prepare a programme of work and travel schedule
  • Participate in missions and consultations to gather information
  • Draft and follow up on correspondence
  • Collate and assess information
  • Classify, categorize, and archive materials
  • Submit an End of Assignment Report
Required Experience
  • Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in the relevant area
  • Minimum of three years of field experience
  • Field experience in post-conflict or other transitional situations
  • Field research or investigative experience in the area of expertise
  • Experience in writing high-quality reports
  • Proven interpersonal skills in complex, political and structured working environments
  • Demonstrated understanding of sanctions regimes in a United Nations, regional organization or Member State setting is highly desirable
  • Experience in working under the rules and regulations of the organization and the working culture and methods of the United Nations Secretariat is highly desirable
Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in military science, political science, international relations, law, finance, economics, journalism or other relevant area
  • First-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted
