Overview

The Supply Chain Officer will lead on or provide technical advice and oversight to procurement field operations of moderate complexity, partnering with key supply chain functions to ensure an integrated supply chain approach to meeting beneficiary needs and coordinate technical assistance to government initiatives.


Key Responsibilities
  • Consolidate and analyse data to inform sourcing strategies or plan specialist procurement initiatives.
  • Provide oversight, guidance and support to Country Offices on procurement policies and procedures.
  • Lead the implementation of procurement projects of moderate complexity or manage operational activities for a Country Office.
  • Collate information and draft responses to support auditing of procurement activities.
  • Identify, develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.
  • Manage and coordinate relationships with inspection and superintendent firms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional counterparts to align procurement activities.
  • Coordinate and prepare reports of procurement activities.
  • Manage individual procurement officers or small procurement teams.
  • Build capacity of WFP staff and external partners on procurement.
  • Contribute to preparedness actions and monitor procurement risks.
  • Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required.
  • Deliver required procurement items.
  • Implement the Strategic Grain Reserve Project.
  • Update SOPs and conduct capacity strengthening.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 5 or more years of progressive relevant work experience.
  • Experience communicating and coordinating with UN agencies/ large international conglomerates.
  • Experience working with food commodity markets (incl. experience with freight markets) as well as goods and services needed in support of WFP’s Operations and its related market intelligence.
  • Experience working with vendors.
  • Experience with budgeting, pipelines and related issues in WFP Corporate Systems.
  • Experience working with WFP partners.
  • Experience in implementing supply chain improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supervising staff.
Qualifications

Advanced University degree in Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Engineering, Legal or Accounting or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.

Languages Required
Fluency (level C) in English language.
Languages Preferred
Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language).
Contract Duration
11 months (renewable)
