Overview
The role involves providing specialized technical leadership on accessible greenhouse design and controlled-environment agriculture adapted for persons with disabilities, with the goal of developing a national accessible greenhouse design standard and a replication toolkit.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structured technical assessments at pilot institutions to document infrastructure constraints and identify adaptation requirements.
- Coordinate with the Agricultural Officer on technical specifications for accessible greenhouse design.
- Develop technical specifications for accessible greenhouse units, covering various accessibility features.
- Lead multi-stakeholder review of draft technical specifications and finalize the standard.
- Provide technical quality assurance for the commissioning of pilot greenhouse units.
- Guide the National Expert on Agriculture in developing a disability-adapted training curriculum and conducting training-of-trainers workshops.
- Develop the SmartGreen Inclusion (SGI) replication toolkit.
- Present the design standard and toolkit at dissemination and project final workshops.
- Provide technical inputs to follow-on project proposals.
- Prepare technical notes and mission reports.
Required Experience
Minimum of 8 years of relevant international professional experience in greenhouse design or controlled-environment agriculture, combined with demonstrated experience in accessible or universal design for persons with disabilities.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in agricultural engineering, horticulture, architecture, civil engineering, or another field directly relevant to accessible greenhouse design and controlled-environment agriculture. Consultants with a bachelor's degree need two additional years of relevant professional experience.
