Overview
The Agronomist Intern will provide technical and field support to the Agronomic Advisor for the Nandi Carbon–Climate Resilience, Livelihoods & Nutrition Project. The role aims to support agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture, tree planting, and farmer engagement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support implementation of agroforestry and climate-smart agriculture activities.
- Conduct field visits to nurseries and farmer plots for tree planting, nursery management, and soil/water conservation.
- Support seasonal activities like seedling propagation and transplanting.
- Assist with farmer trainings, demonstrations, and community meetings.
- Provide basic agronomic guidance to farmers.
- Promote inclusive participation of women, youth, and vulnerable households.
- Support farmer registration, land verification, and mapping processes.
- Assist with data collection on tree planting, nursery outputs, and adoption of climate-smart practices.
- Maintain field records and submit activity reports.
- Support documentation of field observations and best practices.
- Coordinate with community-based organizations, cooperatives, and local extension officers.
- Assist in organizing trainings, meetings, and learning forums.
- Ensure adherence to Save the Children policies on child safeguarding, gender equality, and community accountability.
Required Experience
Familiarity with the Nandi County geographical landscape, especially Emgwen, Nandi Hills, Tinderet and Aldai Sub-Counties.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (completed or near completion) in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Science, Agricultural Extension, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
