UN Women: Research and Data Specialist - Flagship Reports, Nairobi, Kenya, P-4 (Fixed-Term Appointment)
Overview
The Research and Data Specialist will lead research, data, and policy analysis for UN Women's flagship reports, contributing to the organization's position as a thought leader on gender equality.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead research, data, and policy analysis for UN Women’s flagship reports, including the World Survey on the Role of Women in Development and Progress of the World’s Women.
- Lead the UN Women peer reviewed policy brief series.
- Commission and manage research on key cross-cutting issues.
- Contribute substantively to the development and implementation of peer review and quality assurance mechanisms for UN Women’s research products.
- Support the preparation of reports for inter-governmental bodies.
- Co-lead the development of the Beijing review reports every five years.
- Develop and maintain strategic research and data partnerships.
- Lead preparation for processes such as Expert Group Meetings, consultations, and advisory group meetings.
- Expand R&D’s research networks in countries in the Global South.
- Strengthen R&D’s partnerships with research institutions and sections across the UN system.
- Convene groups of key thinkers on gender.
- Support colleagues across the organization to translate research findings into programmatic approaches and tailored policy advice.
- Play a leading role in internal and external outreach for UN Women’s research and data outputs.
- Contribute to resource mobilization efforts by networking with donors and developing fundable proposals.
- Input research insights into briefings for UN Women senior leadership.
- Supervise staff and consultants, and oversee their performance.
Required Experience
At least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in carrying out research and analysis in a development policy and/or research context with a strong focus on gender equality is required. Experience in research, peer reviewed publications and writing on gender and development issues is required. Experience in coordinating and designing cross-country comparative research projects is required. Experience in coordinating global or regional research reports is desirable. Experience leading and managing personnel in international settings is required. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems is required. Experience in the use of a modern web-based ERP System, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable.
Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant social science discipline, with a substantial gender component is required. PhD is a strong asset. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
