NDC Climate Reporting Specialist (Retainer, home-based from Port-Louis, Mauritius)
Overview
The role supports the Mauritian Government's climate reporting efforts by strengthening coordination and capacity building for the Climate Reporting Unit and related committees.
Key Responsibilities
- Propose recommendations for the effective operation of the Climate Reporting Unit, including ToR, SOPs, HR strategy, and training needs.
- Conduct a resource needs assessment for the Climate Reporting unit.
- Propose a training and resource needs plan for the Climate Reporting/MRV Unit.
- Coordinate consultation meetings for the elaboration of BTR/NC.
- Support stakeholder consultation for data collection and report compilation.
- Build in-house capacity of at least 2 staff members.
- Coordinate a national validation workshop.
- Provide support for setting up an MRV/Climate reporting subcommittee.
- Assist in agenda setting and conduct of subcommittee meetings.
- Provide support to the Department of Climate Change as a member of the steering committee.
- Analyze and assess training needs of stakeholders.
- Develop appropriate training materials.
- Create and maintain a database of training conducted and beneficiaries.
- Organize and deliver training sessions.
- Identify capacity building opportunities.
Required Experience
Relevant experience is work in public and/or private sector with a focus on climate data collection, analysis, monitoring, reporting, and verification or related areas. Experience working with multistakeholder teams. Knowledge of the country’s context on climate change. Desired: Experience working on national GHG inventories, ETF or sustainability reporting. Experience working with IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 standards.
Qualifications
Master's degree (or equivalent) preferably in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Science, Engineering or related fields with 5 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any of the above or related fields with 2 additional years of relevant experience is required.
