Food Security Coordinator

Overview

Coordinate and foster effective collaboration among humanitarian agencies, government authorities, UN organizations, NGOs, donors, and other key stakeholders to ensure a timely, efficient, and well-coordinated food security response. Lead multi-stakeholder planning processes, needs assessments, monitoring, reporting, advocacy, and resource mobilization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain the Food Security Cluster/Sector, including membership, engagement of key partners, organizing meetings, and overall coordination.
• Contribute to the Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) and Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP).
• Ensure monitoring of the FS response (quantitative and qualitative) and report on implementation.
• Share information and discuss with cluster partners through meetings, email, and technical working groups.
• Facilitate and support needs assessments (e.g., EFSA, CFSAM, SMART, MIRA) and promote data utilization.
• Promote mainstreaming of cross-cutting and cross-sectoral issues and participatory approaches.
• Promote application of common standards (e.g., SPHERE, CHS) and harmonization of programmatic responses.
• Contribute to country-level contingency planning and coordinate emergency preparedness and response.
• Develop regular food security reports (Sitreps, Bulletins, newsletters).
• Undertake advocacy and resource mobilization on behalf of FSC partners.
• Contribute to the effective management of country-based pooled funding schemes.
• Identify funding for the FSC team and track FSC funding status.
• Identify capacity gaps and needs and provide training and capacity building.
• Supervise and guide the IMO and provide guidance to co-chair and other Cluster team members.
• Support gFSC initiatives such as CCPM and the global cluster annual overview.

Required Experience

Minimum 7 years of professional experience in humanitarian response at a mid or senior level. Experience in food security related topics is mandatory and experience with inter-agency coordination is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree in food security, agriculture, economics, humanitarian affairs or related field.
