Overview
The Programme Analyst, Maternal Health, provides technical, programmatic, and operational support to improve maternal health outcomes by managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the maternal health programme. The role supports the integration of maternal health interventions with other SRH services and collaborates with various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development, design, and management of the maternal health portfolio, including strengthening the midwifery programme.
- Contribute to the development of sectoral programme goals, objectives, strategies, and implementation plans.
- Monitor programme performance against agreed targets and troubleshoot operational bottlenecks.
- Oversee budget allocation, monitor expenditures, and ensure timely disbursement and reporting of financial information.
- Conduct regular IP performance reviews to ensure adherence to UNFPA policies and procedures.
- Provide technical and operational support throughout all stages of programming processes.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to establish monitoring benchmarks and performance indicators.
- Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises and programme reviews.
- Support programme implementation through field missions and exchange of information.
- Draft timely and high-quality programme and donor reports.
- Contribute to advocacy initiatives and messaging for increased investments in maternal health.
- Provide technical support in reviewing strategic documents, national health sector plans, technical guidelines, and policies.
- Represent UNFPA in technical working groups, inter-agency health coordination platforms, and policy dialogues.
- Support the drafting of concept notes and funding proposals.
- Support the preparation of briefings, factsheets, and stories demonstrating the impact of UNFPA’s work.
- Contribute to advocacy efforts for increases in national and sub-national budgetary allocations for maternal health.
- Contribute to programme efforts to identify, analyze, and synthesize evidence and knowledge on ending preventable maternal deaths.
- Support leveraging of data and research findings to influence policy discussions.
- Contribute to communities of practices and knowledge sharing platforms.
- Stand-in for other team members on selected functions as may be required.
- Carry out any other duties as may be required by UNFPA leadership.
Required Experience
Minimum of 2 years of progressive professional work experience in the field of sexual and reproductive health, particularly maternal health; Practical experience in programme/project management including experience in large multi-sector projects, designing, monitoring and appraising proposals and actively liaising and coordinating with relevant and potential project partners; Prior experience in the UN system is an asset. Experience using Microsoft Office software packages, Cloud applications, like Google Suite, and web-based ERP management systems, such as, the Oracle, Quantum, QuantumPlus, Quantum PowerBI, etc.
Qualifications
Master’s / Advanced degree in public health, medicine, health research, health policy, education and/or management, development and/or other related social science disciplines.
