Overview

The Technical Officer role supports the Regional Director in the efficient delivery of their mandate and in providing leadership and coordination of WHO's work in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.


Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and facilitate improved information and knowledge management within the team.
  • Accompany the Regional Director to meetings and missions, prepare minutes, track progress, and follow-up on actions.
  • Facilitate the Regional Director's public engagements and travel.
  • Coordinate WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office's preparations for UN and WHO governing body meetings.
  • Contribute to the management and maintenance of the Regional Director's schedule, correspondence, and missions.
  • Participate actively in key technical and policy meetings.
  • Prepare briefings for the RDO on programmatic, procedural, and protocol issues.
  • Draft reports, briefing notes, meeting summaries, and other technical products.
  • Generate routine statistical and analytical reports.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Regional Director.
Required Experience

At least five years' experience in technical work with international exposure in WHO, the UN System, a governmental or non-governmental organization. Proven experience in planning and managing appropriate communications related to technical activities, high-level meetings, and missions. Desirable: Working experience in an international or UN organization.

Qualifications

Essential: First university degree in business management, social sciences, Public health or related field. Desirable: Advanced degree or training in relevant field including project management or public administration.

Remuneration
Annual base salary starting at USD 71,335 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1718 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
