Technical Officer (Disability)
Overview
Provide technical expertise in disability inclusion and support the implementation of the WHO Disability Health Equity Initiative at global, regional, and country levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise in disability inclusion.
- Support dissemination and implementation of the WHO Disability Health Equity Initiative.
- Support implementation of evidence-based technical materials on disability.
- Liaise with Regional and Country Offices, and external partners on disability-related activities.
- Support planning and implementation of WHO activities on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based technical tools to support Member States to develop disability inclusive health systems.
- Support the development of training materials for capacity building in disability inclusion.
- Conduct and contribute to research activities and compile and evaluate data related to disability inclusive health systems.
- Support the Unit Head in the development and monitoring of work plans and budgets, including resource mobilization.
- Serve as a technical focal point for disability inclusion.
- Exchange information with counterparts and partners on implementation of policies and strategies related to disability activities.
- Contribute to collaboration plans with partners and review them periodically.
- Prepare and deliver oral presentations and compile related informational materials.
- Monitor the technical content and materials appropriate for the WHO website.
- Participate in meetings on behalf of the programme area.
- Perform all other duties as may be assigned.
Required Experience
At least 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in technical programme implementation and policy support in the field of disability inclusion. Demonstrated professional experience working at the country and/or regional level providing technical support to government partners and supporting the implementation of strategies and programmes for disability inclusion. Demonstrated international exposure. Experience within the UN system and provision of guidance related to health system development is an advantage.
Qualifications
Advanced level university degree (Master's level or above) in health sciences, public health or related field. PhD in public health or related field is desirable.
