Consultant, CHE/HPD - Environmental Health (WASH). Band level B.
Overview
To provide technical expertise to the environmental health portfolio, covering climate-resilient water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Water Safety Plans (WSPs), occupational health and medical and health-care waste management, and ensuring regional support to Member States.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft climate-resilient WASH and WSP technical packages for Afghanistan, Sudan and Egypt, including WASH-in-health-care-facilities components, by the end of the assignment (month 6).
- Draft regional and multi-country WSP support and training materials as regional public goods, by the end of the assignment (month 6).
- Provide technical guidance and country support on medical and health-care solid waste management within the portfolio countries, throughout the assignment.
- Provide occupational health inputs to regional and country workplans, with a documented set of technical recommendations for continuation of occupational health support activities, by the end of month 4 of the assignment.
- Provide environmental health inputs to the H-VAAs in progress and to country policy brief drafts, in coordination with the climate and resilience consultant, by the end of the assignment (month 6).
- Submit monthly progress reports against the agreed workplan, for each month of the assignment, from the first to the last month inclusive.
Required Experience
At least five years of relevant experience in environmental health, including WASH and/or water safety planning. Desirable: Experience with WASH in health-care facilities, health-care waste management and occupational health; experience in fragile or emergency settings; prior work with WHO or the UN system.
Qualifications
Minimum first university degree for lower end of range, an advanced university degree for mid and high end of range, in environmental health, environmental or sanitary engineering, public health or a related field.
