Overview
The Sanitation and Hygiene Officer provides technical leadership for WASH promotion initiatives, developing behavior change communication strategies and building capacity of stakeholders. This role ensures high-impact programming through field monitoring, data-driven insights, and multi-agency coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify sanitation and hygiene gaps and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor and follow up on the dissemination of hygiene and sanitation messages.
- Develop and track software components of the Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP).
- Compile weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports.
- Maintain close working relationships with government authorities and relevant partners.
- Advocate for the integration of refugee populations and host communities into district WASH plans.
- Represent World Vision in cluster coordination meetings, local government forums, and stakeholder sessions.
- Empower Water utility, WASHCOs and artisans with technical tools and training.
- Deliver comprehensive WASH campaigns using culturally sensitive materials.
- Maintain a strong field presence to supervise and facilitate improved hygiene practices.
- Lead the implementation of WASH FIT and IPC protocols in healthcare facilities.
- Facilitate the construction of household latrines for vulnerable and marginalized groups.
- Manage comprehensive school-based WASH interventions.
- Drive the design and execution of responsive SBCC strategies and hygiene mobilization campaigns.
- Facilitate diverse training sessions for hygiene promoters, sanitation monitors, and solid waste supervisors.
- Provide expert support to WASH actors and strengthen district-level systems for disaster preparedness.
- Lead baseline, midline, and end-line surveys.
- Monitor the ongoing hygiene and sanitation situation and provide regular updates.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training sessions.
- Verify that hygiene messaging and facilities are accessible and culturally appropriate.
- Establish and manage community feedback mechanisms.
- Capture "Significant Change Stories," document lessons learned, and identify best practices.
- Identify, select, and coordinate community outreach agents.
- Establish/adapt WASH Committees, Water Utilities, IPC-WASH committee, School WASH clubs, and WASH business centres.
- Organize community groups to mobilize local resources for WASH interventions.
- Lead the establishment and support of IPC and WASH-FIT implementation committees.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience designing and implementing hygiene and sanitation programs, specifically within refugee and host community contexts.
- Substantial experience with Digital MEAL Tools, utilizing mobile data collection applications (such as mWater, KoboToolbox and others).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Environmental Health Science, Public Health, WASH, or other related fields.
- Basic Knowledge of Sanitation and Hygiene.
- Understanding of fundamental sanitation concepts, hygiene practices, and their impact on public health.
