Overview
Participates in the design, development, installation, and maintenance of information systems to support regional humanitarian and operational logistics. Contributes to ICT infrastructure planning and user support.
Key Responsibilities
- Participates in preparing user requirements and technical specifications for ICT infrastructure and network deployments.
- Assists in the design, development, and installation of information systems.
- Undertakes analysis of system modules, develops enhancements, and designs small stand-alone systems.
- Undertakes testing of applications software for stability in field environments.
- Maintains assigned system portions, provides operational support, and analyzes system changes/upgrades.
- Participates in developing and maintaining Information Systems project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Assists in identifying human and technical resources for projects and monitors project risks.
- Writes and develops programs to interface with existing systems.
- Ensures data security and integrity.
- Participates in developing disaster recovery plans.
- Prepares, updates, and maintains system documentation and technical/procedural manuals.
- Assists in procurements, including needs assessments and preparing technical specifications.
- Assists in the set-up and monitoring of software performance measures.
- Participates in Helpdesk support services.
- Participates in facilitating communications between Technology Services Section and regional clients.
- Assists in the development of Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Advises users on suitable hardware and software and maintains/enhances software.
- Drafts training materials and conducts training sessions.
- Participates with senior staff in assessing and testing new technology.
- May provide guidance to new/junior staff.
- Contributes to data collection and analysis, identification of trends, and provides draft insights.
- Performs ad hoc duties as required.
Required Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of computer information systems is required or the successful completion of the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP)/United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
- Relevant experience in managing information and communication technology systems in disaster response and/or complex emergencies in countries affected by disasters or conflict is required.
- Experience in information systems and software applications analysis is required.
- Experience with the UN Common System or comparable international organization is desirable.
Qualifications
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two (2) years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the Young Professionals Programme Examination/United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
