Overview
The Migration Health On-Call Nurse will perform daily nursing activities in the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Bujumbura-Burundi to fulfil technical requirements for resettlement countries.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily nursing activities including medical examinations, vital signs checks, blood/urine/sputum collection, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, TB management, treatment and referrals, pre-departure procedures, documentation, and information transmission.
- Provide information and explanations to migrants/refugees regarding the migration health assessment process, treatments, and referrals.
- Ensure proper identification and follow-up through history taking, biodata collection, ID verification, and maintaining a register of applicants.
- Follow Health Assessment Programme’s check lists and SOP’s, maintain universal precautions, and verify sample transport.
- Maintain and monitor the MHAC pharmacy, stock, medical kits, and emergency kits.
- Provide pre and/or post counselling on TB or HIV education, prevention, and management.
- Prepare administrative reports and program updates.
- Support the planning and execution of mobile missions.
- Assist with pre-departure documents, briefings, and preparations.
- Perform medical escort duties when required.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with partners for follow-up and information sharing.
- Collect statistical information and share as per format.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Required Experience
- Three years of relevant professional experience for Bachelor's degree holders.
- Minimum of five years of relevant clinical experience for Diploma holders.
- Excellent technical skills, including in phlebotomy.
- Training or working experience in Tuberculosis management, mass immunizations, communicable diseases, laboratory testing or public health is an advantage.
- Knowledge of and experience in clinical nursing.
- Excellent bedside manner.
- Knowledge of principles of preventive care and disease control.
- Knowledge of and experience in implementation of patient safety and infection prevention and control.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited academic institution OR Diploma in Nursing.
- A valid license to practice nursing in the country of duty station.
- Master’s degree or higher degree from an accredited academic institution is an advantage.
