Overview

The Gender, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion (GEDI) and Safeguarding Manager will guide the Uganda Country Program in applying GEDI principles and implement IRC’s safeguarding strategy.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and monitor the implementation of Gender Equality and Safeguarding strategies.
  • Develop Gender and Safeguarding Action Plans.
  • Oversee implementation of Action Plans and ensure timely delivery.
  • Review, modify, design and support implementation of HR policies and practices for gender equity.
  • Provide orientation and on-job training on gender mainstreaming and safeguarding.
  • Support contextual adaptation and roll-out of IEC materials.
  • Liaise with safety and security focal point for gender inclusive risk analysis.
  • Build program leads’ understanding of gender equitable programming.
  • Support capacity building of implementing partners.
  • Adapt and facilitate trainings for partners.
  • Monitor program implementation through field visits and interviews.
  • Produce reports on impact and progress.
  • Coordinate Gender Equality Champions.
  • Support Women@Work Groups.
  • Review and support enhancement of complaints response mechanisms.
  • Ensure representation in relevant forums.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Provide inputs for proposals and reports.
  • Manage GEDI and Safeguarding budget.
  • Support investigations of safeguarding concerns.
  • Promote staff wellbeing and access to psychosocial support.
  • Foster a safe and respectful work environment.
Required Experience
  • 4 years professional experience in gender, diversity or inclusion programs and/or Protection and/or safeguarding and/or HR.
  • Background or extensive understanding of humanitarian aid sector.
  • At least one year experience of supervising a team providing direct services to survivors of violence and/or working at the community level.
  • Demonstrated experience/understanding of organizational and/or HR policies and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating trainings and workshops.
  • Experience in working collaboratively and/or advocating with other sectors and teams.
Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, law, psychology, health, social work, humanities or other related discipline.
