Overview
The WASH Specialist supports the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the WASH programme within the country programme, providing technical guidance and management support.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting WASH inputs for situation analysis and donor proposals.
- Preparing annual work plans in cooperation with government and counterparts.
- Strengthening national government WASH sector monitoring systems.
- Monitoring UNICEF-supported activities through field visits and surveys.
- Providing technical and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners, and UN system partners.
- Contributing to coordination arrangements for humanitarian WASH.
- Building and sustaining partnerships with government counterparts and national stakeholders.
- Leading the development, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of WASH action research and innovation.
- Creating and delivering learning opportunities for UNICEF WASH staff.
Required Experience
- A minimum of five years of professional experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries.
- One year of deployment in a developing country is required.
- Proven experience with different types of WASH programming including provision of safe drinking water, support to water systems in institutions, awareness and climate change related programming.
- Demonstrated experience working with government authorities.
Qualifications
- An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: social sciences, sanitary, civil or relevant degree in engineering or another relevant technical field.
- Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset.
