Overview

The Regional Protection Response Officer (AVR) will conduct protection assessments, identify risk mitigation strategies, and provide technical guidance and support to ensure high-quality outcomes for migrants.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct protection assessments and identify risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to national and international protection staff.
  • Collaborate with relevant staff, units and programmes to ensure migrants have access to relevant services.
  • Coordinate with relevant actors to facilitate access to documentation, family tracing, and reunification.
  • Ensure appropriate protection information management.
  • Participate in relevant coordination mechanisms or task forces.
  • Provide remote and in person support for the set up of the response and provision of assistance.
  • Represent RO LAC in meetings and forums.
  • Monitor the implementation of protection activities.
  • Contribute to the design and development of new projects and activities.
  • Support case management coordination.
  • Contribute to developing and delivering specialized training.
Required Experience
  • Five years of relevant professional experience with a Master's degree; or seven years of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working with migrants, civil society, and governments.
  • Experience working in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven experience supporting protection programming across multiple countries, as well as mainstreaming protection across operations.
  • Proven experience providing protection and assistance to migrants in vulnerable situations and communicating with individuals who have complex needs.
  • Experience working in programs that include a movement operations component is an advantage.
  • Experience with IOM or other UN agencies, particularly working on assisted voluntary return and reintegration, and specialized protection programs, is preferred.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, International Relations/Affairs, Research, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in the above fields.

Languages Required
Fluency in English and Spanish (oral and written) is required.
Languages Preferred
Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, and Russian) is an advantage.
