Overview
The Weapon Contamination (WeC) Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Field Officer assists with the reduction of the impact of CBRN-related events, ensuring staff safety, continuation of critical operations, and helping vulnerable people and National Societies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist/deliver CBRN briefings to new ICRC staff, conduct CBRN awareness sessions to partner organizations; participate in CBRN staff safety trainings and exercises
- Prepare and update CBRN-related documentation, including contingency plans, Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), training materials, instructions, and technical guidelines.
- Support implementation of CBRN projects and monitor distribution and delivery of CBRN and related equipment to beneficiaries
- Conduct equipment familiarization sessions and provide technical instructions on the use, operation, and maintenance of donated equipment
- Perform surveys, collect and analyze operational data, and maintain records related to WeC/CBRN activities and response operations
- Conduct hazard identification activities and participate in risk assessments related to CBRN and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incidents
- Participate in CBRN response activities, preparedness measures, staff safety trainings, and field exercises
- Liaise with CBRN response units, emergency services, and relevant authorities on technical and operational matters related to preparedness and response activities
- Provide translation and interpretation support during meetings, trainings, and operational activities, and assist in preparation of technical reports and documentation
- Coordinate with internal departments (Health, Protection, Armed Forces Security (FAS), Cooperation, etc.) to support implementation of operational tasks and reporting requirements
Required Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of overall professional experience
- At least 2 years of direct work experience in Weapon Contamination (WeC) / mine action or a similar field
- Teaching or presentation experience is desirable
- Previous experience with the ICRC or other humanitarian organizations, alongside strong familiarity with humanitarian operations and principles is an asset
Qualifications
- Relevant university degree or technical college diploma
- Academically or professionally proficient in a technical WeC-related subject or pedagogics
