Overview
The Project Manager will provide day-to-day coordination and overall management support to ensure effective implementation, institutional alignment, reporting, and sustainability of the 2025 Mayors Challenge project in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of the project with the Rio City Hall, UNDP, and relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor project workplans, schedules, deliverables, and milestones.
- Lead alignment across technical teams, product streams, institutional stakeholders, and implementation priorities.
- Lead project governance and coordination mechanisms.
- Lead strategic and operational planning for project implementation.
- Follow up on the execution of activities and support timely delivery of outputs.
- Identify implementation risks and support mitigation measures.
- Decide on procurement processes and follow-up with suppliers and service providers, as required.
- Elaborate monitoring of project indicators, outputs, and results.
- Prepare progress updates, implementation summaries, and project reports.
- Coordinate reporting, accountability, and coordination with UNDP.
- Systematize lessons learned, evidence, and implementation insights.
- Serve as a focal point for coordination with UNDP on implementation matters.
- Liaise with municipal secretariats, implementing partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support strategies for institutionalization, continuity, and sustainability of the project.
- Contribute to strengthening ownership and alignment across relevant institutions.
- Make sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
- Compile and systematize project knowledge, products and tools as well as their wide distribution to partners.
Required Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years (with master’s degree) or four (4) years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant professional experience, in project planning, implementation and monitoring.
- Experience working with the public sector and experience in stakeholder coordination and institutional articulation are required.
- Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section:
- Experience preparing progress and results reports;
- Experience in risk monitoring and implementation follow-up;
- Experience in international organizations, including UNDP or similar institutions;
- Experience with public innovation projects;
- Experience with technology-enabled projects or digital public service initiatives;
- Experience working with municipal governments.
Qualifications
- Minimum education requirements:
- Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Sciences, International Development, Economics, Business Administration, Project Management or a related field is required.
- Or
- A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas stated above in combination with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.
