Overview
The Chief Equity Risk Officer - Asia will provide independent risk and upside assessments and approvals for new equity and mezzanine transactions and material portfolio actions. The role involves engaging with investment and portfolio teams to identify, assess, and resolve material issues in equity and mezzanine investments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide independent risk and upside assessments and approvals for new equity and mezzanine transactions and material portfolio actions.
- Represent CIR on Investment Committees, Equity Reviews and corporate-wide working groups on equity and mezzanine.
- Engage with investment and portfolio teams throughout the project cycle to identify, assess, and resolve material issues.
- Ensure IFC’s risk appetite is implemented, profitability targets are met, and each transaction presents an appropriate risk-reward balance.
- Provide senior expert input on upside potential, value-add opportunities, and vulnerabilities in equity and mezzanine transactions.
- Keep abreast of developments in portfolio projects and ensure relevant feedback is shared.
- Work with Global Heads of Equity, Portfolio Managers, and Special Operations teams to manage distressed equity and mezzanine investments.
- Lead the review of equity valuation analysis for new business and portfolio investments.
- Develop, review, and discuss equity standards, policies, procedures, and business process improvements.
- Identify relevant market, macroeconomic, sector, and portfolio trends and translate them into practical risk insights.
- Maintain a strong network of internal and external contacts.
- Contribute to knowledge management activities.
- Mentor junior equity risk staff and staff on rotation.
- Formulate clear, well-reasoned, and persuasive recommendations for corporate committees and senior management.
Required Experience
At least 10 –15 years of relevant experience with a major financial investor in emerging markets, including at least 3 –10 years as a decision-maker with positive track record on Investment Committees responsible for sizeable portfolios and covering multiple sectors, all stages of development of investee companies, and all equity and mezzanine products, direct equity investments, fund investments and co-investments. Exposure to the full equity investment cycle across multiple transactions, including origination, structuring, portfolio management, valuation, exits, and distressed situations. Experience as a Board Member or Fund Advisory Committee member would be an advantage.
Qualifications
A Master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance, business, law, economics, international affairs or similar fields.
