Overview
The Field Communication Officer plays a key role in designing, planning, and implementing communication strategies and initiatives. The role serves as an external representative to enhance understanding, support, and acceptance of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a broad range of communication needs in relation to humanitarian response.
- Developing and promoting communication practices.
- Engaging with the media.
- Developing messaging and support content generation.
- Producing and generating texts and images, audio-visual on needs and response.
- Guiding colleagues on providing stories and content.
- Contributing to defining communication and prevention objectives, strategies and plans.
- Ensuring adequate field communication analysis and intervention.
- Ensuring appropriate monitoring, evaluation reporting and documentation of communication activities.
- Coaching, training and overseeing quality control of communication activities.
- Developing appropriate local strategies and tools for operational communication, community engagement, promoting IHL, cooperating with RC/RC Movement partners, public and digital communication, information analysis/scanning and public affairs.
- Supporting sub-delegation management and other programs in networking and representing the ICRC.
- Following humanitarian developments and issues relevant to the ICRC's reputation/perception and capacity to operate.
- Coordinating joint communication and prevention activities with URCS branches.
Required Experience
5 years’ work experience in a field relevant to communication and prevention. Previous experience in operational communications a strong asset. Solid Movement knowledge compulsory. Computer skills (competence in MS Office and other software); familiarity with online and social media communication tools. Experience in building National Society communication capacity an advantage. Good IHL knowledge a strong asset. Staff management experience an asset. Sound knowledge of the political, social and media environment in the country/region covered.
Qualifications
University degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as communications, political science, international relations, journalism or law. Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine.
