Overview
The Investment Officer will originate and execute new investments, manage portfolio relationships, and support IFC’s financial institutions, including for trade-finance business, in the MCA region.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate a pipeline of high-quality investment opportunities with financial institutions in MCA, aligned with IFC’s country and sector priorities.
- Lead or support the appraisal, structuring, negotiation, and closing of debt, equity, and other financial-sector investments, with a strong focus on client and asset quality.
- Assess the financial and operational performance, competitive position, development impact, and key country, sponsor, integrity, and transaction risks of prospective and existing clients.
- Proactively manage portfolio investments, including risk assessments, supervision reporting, disbursements, waivers, restructurings, equity valuations, and other client matters.
- Manage milestones across the project lifecycle and produce timely, accurate, and high-quality investment, credit, and portfolio documentation.
- Originate and execute trade finance and supply-chain finance opportunities with financial institutions in the MCA region, working closely with IFC’s regional and global trade-finance teams.
- Monitor and execute daily trade finance transactions in the MCA, facilitate timely processing of amendments and cancellations by working closely with IFC’s GTFP Operations team; monitor trade lines and ensure that transactions are consistent with all corporate guidelines, including the trade operational guidelines; track program activities by using IFC’s corporate systems and prepare reports as needed.
- Use IFC’s digital and AI-enabled tools, where appropriate, to support research, financial analysis, document review, knowledge retrieval, and preparation of investment and portfolio materials.
Required Experience
At least 5 years of relevant experience in investment, banking, corporate finance, private equity, or another financial-sector role, with a demonstrated record of supporting the origination, structuring, closing, and management of investments. 3 to 5 years of relevant trade-finance experience is required, including knowledge of international trade products, correspondent banking relationships, credit assessment, transaction structuring, and portfolio management.
Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in finance, business, economics, accounting, or a related field.
