Overview
The National Government Liaison Officer will support and facilitate IOM’s engagement and coordination with government institutions in Bangladesh, providing analysis and advisory support for programme implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and maintain relationships with key national stakeholders, including government officials, civil society actors, academia, and the private sector.
- Provide liaison support to programme units for obtaining necessary government clearance and permissions.
- Support engagement with government counterparts to strengthen their understanding of programme implementation issues.
- Promote the participation of relevant national actors and key stakeholders in IOM-organized events.
- Support the organization and facilitation of events, meetings, workshops, and trainings.
- Facilitate and coordinate meetings with senior government officials.
- Monitor and analyse changes in government policies and priorities, providing advice to IOM Management.
- Advise IOM Management and programme units on protocol matters.
- Coordinate official communications and correspondence with national authorities.
- Review and provide recommendations on official communications with government counterparts.
- Support programme units in liaising with implementing partners and relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare and disseminate relevant information packages and reports on IOM’s activities.
- Provide liaison support in facilitating the approval of permits, licenses, and registrations.
- Liaise with government ministries and/or departments to facilitate duty exemption, VAT exemptions, and customs clearance.
- Monitor and maintain an updated record of relevant government stakeholders and institutional counterparts.
- Undertake field visits as required.
- Attend meetings and coordination forums with government counterparts and other stakeholders.
Required Experience
Experience in liaison and protocol matters with government entities; Experience working with government institutions; Knowledge of structures and functions of national and international organizations; Prior work experience with international organizations, non-government or government institutions/organizations in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage; Experience working with UN agencies is an advantage; Experience in organizing and facilitating trainings and workshops at local and national levels is an advantage.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Political Science, Social Sciences, Social Welfare, International Relations, Sociology, or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or Bachelor’s degree in above fields with two years of relevant professional experience.
