Overview
The Learning Specialist will plan, design, and deliver virtual and onsite learning activities, and maintain e-courses on the Learning Management System to support UN Volunteers' capacity development.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and design virtual and onsite learning activities, including conducting training needs analysis, developing programme plans, and creating training materials.
- Coordinate with facilitators and subject-matter-experts, and manage project cycles including communication, timelines, and budgets.
- Prepare terms of reference and procure professional services from vendors and consultants.
- Coordinate logistics and administrative arrangements for workshops.
- Organize and monitor the delivery of services by external consultants and vendors.
- Conduct reviews to capture lessons learned and best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and supervision to designated personnel.
- Facilitate in-person, virtual, and blended learning activities.
- Adapt learning delivery methods to meet diverse volunteer needs.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
- Engage with facilitators to finalize learning content and methods.
- Coordinate or provide technical and learner support.
- Monitor volunteer engagement and make real-time improvements.
- Conduct pre- and post-workshop evaluations.
- Ensure e-courses on the Learning Management System are current, relevant, and accessible.
- Track completion of e-courses.
- Design, develop, update, or maintain digital and blended learning products on eCampus.
- Liaise with external vendors to resolve technical issues.
- Support the administration and continuous improvement of learning platforms.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to revise learning programme content and delivery.
- Analyze learning evaluation data for improvements.
- Apply agreed quality standards to learning products.
- Maintain version control and communicate updated programmes.
- Conduct Training of Trainers for relevant workshops.
- Plan and coordinate communications and learner-engagement activities.
- Develop and implement programme information and guidance.
- Draft reports on learning activities, outcomes, and impact.
Required Experience
Minimum 5 years (with master’s degree) or 7 years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant professional experience in sustainable development, preferably within the United Nations, and/or in learning and development, adult learning, instructional design, capacity development, new learning technologies, or a related field is required. The relevant experience must include managing learning programmes or projects through stages of the learning cycle. Working with volunteers or with a volunteer sending organization in implementing capacity development activities. Working in a global context such as the United Nations or similar organizations.
Qualifications
Advanced University degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Education, Adult Learning, Human Resources Development, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or related fields is required, or A first level University Degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas mentioned above in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience will be given a due consideration in lieu of the Advanced University degree.
