Overview
The Medical Doctor will provide evidence-based primary healthcare and emergency care, including initiating and supporting medical referrals and evacuations for WFP and UN staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based patient care and practice in line with Medical Professional Standards and deontological norms.
- Deliver primary and emergency care, including assessment, examination, diagnostics, stabilization, chronic disease management, medication dispensing, and related clinical duties.
- Provide BLS, ALS, PHTLS, and stabilization during pre-hospital, inter-hospital, and emergency care.
- Manage ALS ambulance services and operate and maintain equipment.
- Initiate, process, and accompany referrals, medical travel, and evacuations.
- Offer mental health support and facilitate referrals.
- Submit monthly cumulative diagnosis reports.
- Monitor and report public health concerns.
- Record all consultations in the electronic medical records system.
- Support health-promotion campaigns.
- Conduct entry and periodic medical examinations and provide pre-travel guidance.
- Help develop emergency and disaster plans.
- Organize and participate in CME sessions, workshops, emergency drills, and simulation exercises.
- Conduct training sessions on basic first aid and other health-related topics.
- Ensure adherence to UN healthcare quality and patient safety standards.
- Use digital systems to maintain adequate pharmaceutical and consumable stocks, serviceable medical equipment, and regular inventory reports.
- Provide medical escort services for high-level delegations.
- Perform other related duties assigned.
Required Experience
Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, with at least 3 years in an emergency or primary care setting. Experience in handling medical emergencies, trauma cases, and infectious disease outbreaks. Previous experience in remote medicine, occupational health, or humanitarian healthcare settings is an advantage.
Qualifications
University degree in Medicine or demonstrably equivalent studies from a recognized institution. Registration as a General Practitioner in Ethiopia with a valid practicing license. Specialists Masters or higher training in Emergency medicine, internal medicine, critical care or any other is added advantage. Additional training and certification in emergency cases management will be an advantage (ACLS/PHTLS).
